"Online Gaming" industry is one the e businesses which are growing rapidly. Those days were gone when Internet is used only for searching webs, doing shopping online, music, software, these days internet captured one more businesses i.e. Online Gaming.
The growing popularity of Java and Flash led to the better user interactivity, better audio and video quality. One can choose online among a wide range of games like, Arcade, Action, Combat, Adventure, Sports etc and 3D games always remain favourites for everyone and one can play singles as well as multiplayers. Now a days, the graphics are much fancy and orignal, that drives the users to the online gaming.

Now a days, consoles are becoming like computers and one can even play some console games online. “Episodic” gaming, in which new add-ons for console games can be downloaded for a fee, is gaining ground which is driving the popularity of X-Box, Play Stations etc. And there are many “casual” online games, often web-based versions of board and card games. According to PricewaterhouseCoopers, in 2009, all these online offerings are expected to account for just $9.4 billion of the $55 billion market for video games.

Online gaming has benifits to both users as well as manufacturers. It takes few months to develop a game for the gaming companies and the games can be further improved even after the months of its launch. The cost of advertising or promotion is also not too much as social networking is the strategy which the comapnies are following for its marketing purposes.
Users can take advantage of evolutionary improvements in games, rather than having to go out and buy new ones. And publishers no longer have to worry about piracy, as their games live in the cloud rather than on a disc that can be copied.

"Impact of Recession on Online Gaming Industry":

According to the NPD group, a market research firm, In America, the industry’s biggest market, sales of games were down 12% in the first nine months of the year compared with the same period in 2008. Online gaming industry did not face the brunt of recession as many has expected. However the sales of high cost consoles have fallen drastically.

In Japan, according to comScore, Inc, in July 2009, Japan recorded more than 16.5 million online gamer population which is nearly one fourth of the Japan's online population. The numbers of online gamer population is increased by 28 percent as compared to the last year.
